The historic estate of General James Wadsworth is now open to the public as a wedding venue, offering couples the opportunity to celebrate their special day on the grounds of the landmark Hartford House in Geneseo.
Current owner and resident Corrin Strong said the decision carries deep personal significance. His parents, Alice Wadsworth and Trowbridge Strong, were married at the Hartford House in 1948, and he is now welcoming other couples to create their own memories at the historic property.
“Valentine’s Day is a traditional time for engagements,” Strong said. “It felt like the perfect moment to announce that the Hartford House is now available for newly engaged couples looking for a truly special setting.”
The Hartford House, built in 1835 by General James Wadsworth, is a 13,000 square foot residence located on the north end of Main Street. The estate spans approximately 70 acres and overlooks the Genesee Valley. A related historic property, The Homestead, was constructed on the south end of Main Street by General Wadsworth’s father, James Wadsworth, the founder of the Village of Geneseo.
While the interior of the house will not be available for large events, the expansive outdoor grounds will be open for weddings. These include a formal garden, a walled garden, and other scenic outdoor spaces suitable for ceremonies and receptions.
The estate has partnered with Partyman Catering of Avon to provide catering services for events held on the property.
In addition, the Garden Suite Bed and Breakfast located at the Hartford House is available for overnight stays. The suite accommodates two to four guests and offers couples and their families a convenient lodging option on site.
Strong said the goal is to share the beauty and history of the Hartford House with the wider community while preserving its character as a historic landmark. Couples interested in hosting a wedding or scheduling a site visit can contact Hartford House Weddings directly for additional information.
