A South Carolina teenager who was reported missing for more than a month has been located safely, and an 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the investigation, authorities confirmed.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Office said 16-year-old Mackenzie Dalton was found in Lexington County following an extensive search that began after she disappeared in late November. Officials stated there is no evidence to suggest that Dalton was held against her will or was with anyone unwillingly during the time she was missing.
Dalton was reported missing after she was last seen leaving her home near the end of November. Due to her age and the length of time she was gone, investigators initially classified her as an endangered juvenile.
During the investigation, deputies recovered the vehicle Dalton left in as well as a suitcase she reportedly took with her when she departed. Authorities had previously indicated they believed she may have been with someone she knew, though details were limited at the time.
As part of the inquiry, deputies arrested Mackenzie Keith English Jr., 18, charging him with obstruction of justice. Investigators allege that English provided false information to law enforcement regarding his contact with Dalton and his knowledge of her location.
Officials did not release additional details about the circumstances of Dalton’s disappearance but emphasized that she was found safe and is now in contact with appropriate authorities.
The investigation remains ongoing as deputies continue to review the events surrounding her disappearance and recovery.
