Shoppers in Geneseo may have noticed a store closing sign at the local Peebles location. While the Peebles store is preparing to close, the space will not remain vacant for long. The company’s corporate office has announced plans to convert the Geneseo Peebles into a Gordmans store, with a grand opening expected in spring 2020.
Both Peebles and Gordmans are part of the Stage family of stores. According to the company, several Peebles locations are being converted as customers continue to respond positively to the Gordmans off-price retail model.
Gordmans is known as an off-price retailer, offering merchandise for the entire family at prices typically lower than traditional department stores. The store features a broad selection of name-brand apparel, footwear, home décor, accessories, gifts, and fragrances. New merchandise arrives weekly, giving shoppers fresh options and new finds on a regular basis.
Company officials said the Peebles store will close shortly before the Gordmans grand opening. The conversion process is expected to take less than two weeks. All current Peebles employees will be offered positions at the new Gordmans location, and additional staff will be hired through job fairs scheduled for early next year.
The transition is expected to bring a refreshed shopping experience to Geneseo while retaining local jobs and introducing the Gordmans brand to the community.
