An early morning barn fire in Cohocton resulted in one person going to the hospital by Cohocton ambulance, and the death of at least two dogs.
The call came in about 5 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, about a fire in a converted barn at the Royce property on Rt. 415, between Ryan Hollow and South Main St., just outside of the Village of Cohocton.
According to Cohocton Fire Chief Bradley Feeley, the person going to the hospital sustained injuries jumping from the burning building. Two other structures nearby on the property, a house and an additional barn, both about 20 feet from the burning structure, were saved, although the house had some moderate exterior damage.
Avoca Fire, Wayland Fire, Cohocton Fire and EMS, Perkinsville Fire, Wallace Fire, Kanona Fire, Atlanta Hose Company, Naples Fire Department, Steuben County Sheriff, the Red Cross, and NYSEG were all on the scene for assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The barn was a total loss, and collapsed.
