State Police and local emergency responders carried out a water rescue Tuesday afternoon after two individuals fell through the ice at Brisco Cove in Sodus Point.
At approximately 12:15 p.m., State Police responded to reports of two people breaking through the ice. Troopers, assisted by officers from Environmental Conservation and members of the Alton Fire Department, located one individual in the water about 30 feet from shore, clinging to the ice in freezing conditions.
First responders, along with a civilian, entered the water in an initial attempt to rescue the adult male, later identified as Jason Brudz of Amherst. Those efforts were unsuccessful until the Alton Fire Department launched a rescue boat.
Working together, the rescue team, including Trooper Gabriel Desanto, Environmental Conservation Officer Kevin Thomas, and concerned citizen Gregory Crane, was able to pull Brudz from the icy water.
Brudz was transported to Rochester General Hospital for treatment. The second individual, identified as his son, Fisher Brudz, was taken to Newark Wayne Hospital. Both were treated for exposure-related injuries.
Authorities said the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
