“The program takes students through the process of creating a real business,” said Sarah Bukoweic, YEA! Senior Project Coordinator, “Not only do they create a real business but they gain life skills like public speaking and project planning, but they also establish a solid professional network, sometimes even before they graduate high school.”
The Trade Show will feature 55 new businesses, created by students from Canandaigua, Excellus Downtown Rochester, Gananda, Geneseo, Greece, Lyndonville, the University of Rochester, Webster-Schroeder and Webster-Thomas. The event is free and open to the public, and is a great way for young students to decide if they would like to apply to the YEA! program.
This presentation is a culmination of nine months of intense work. YEA! students are taught by successful local entrepreneurs, business mentors, and guest lecturers. They brainstorm ideas, write business plans, do market research, pitch their ideas to a panel of investors and ultimately launch their own fully formed company.
YEA! operates during the academic year from October to May, with classes meeting once a week after school. The program is now currently accepting applications for next year’s YEA! class of 2015.
