According to a press release from Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Derrick Valentine, 20, of Conesus, was transported to Strong Hospital with serious injuries after he was involved in a dirt bike accident on Federal Road at Niver Road last evening.
At 6:55 p.m. the Livingston County E-911 Center received a call regarding a 20 year old male that was unconscious after striking a stop sign. Responding Deputies arrived on scene and located Valentine unconscious and laying on the side of Niver Road.
It was learned that Valentine was operating a 2001 Kawasaki Dirt Bike on his property and he did strike a ditch, at that time both Valentine and the dirt bike went airborne, crossed over Federal Road and came to a rest after striking a street sign and stop sign. Valentine was ejected from the dirt bike but fortunately was wearing a helmet.
Livonia EMS and the Conesus Fire Department also responded to the scene. Valentine was ultimately transported to Strong Hospital for treatment. Investigation revealed that Valentine was inexperienced with the operation of the dirt bike. It was also learned that Valentine did suffer internal injuries, but did not appear life threatening.
Handling the investigation from the Sheriff’s Office were the following members: Deputy Michael Williams (Forensic Identification Unit), Deputy Michael Talesca, Deputy Paul Ricotta, Deputy Michael Wade, Deputy Brian Schirmer, Sergeant Joseph Breu and Sheriff Dougherty.
