GENESEO – The York Golden Knights defeated the Geneseo Blue Devils 60-55 in a tightly contested rivalry game, the Battle of the Valley, on Monday night.
The game started very offensively with both teams pushing the tempo and driving the ball to the lane to create good shots. Although the score was close throughout the game, the Blue Devils certainly had the momentum entering the locker room at halftime with a 31-28 lead. Right before halftime, Blue Devils junior center Marcus Griffin blocked three shots to give the Blue Devils a lift entering the third quarter. In the second half, the Golden Knights kept it close and the Blue Devils began to break down defensively in the 4th quarter.
“I think we played very well defensively in the fourth quarter and were hitting our shots,” said Golden Knights Head Coach Edward Orman. “A coach can’t take credit for good players making good plays.”
Golden Knight point guard Andrew Guesno was able to make some clutch shots and finished with a total of 18 points. Golden Knight forward Hunter Stella also had two huge threes in the 4th quarter to help secure the Golden Knights victory over the Blue Devils.
The Blue Devils came close to tying the game in the last 20 seconds, although the Golden Knights were shooting very well from the free throw line down the stretch.
The Golden Knights are now 14-4 overall with a 7-2 league record and the Blue Devils are 12-6 with a 7-3 league record.
The Blue Devils return to action at home against Pavilion on Wednesday, February 18 at 7p.m. The Golden Knights will host the Cal-Mum Red Raiders on Wednesday at 7p.m. as well.
