GENESEO — The YMCA’s Scott Taylor and Rob Walker came before the Village of Geneseo Board of Trustees tonight to discuss the Geneseo summer recreation program the YMCA runs with Geneseo Central School teacher Jeff Rose.
Mayor Richard Hatheway raised some concerns based on last year’s program. He told the YMCA representatives that they had planned for more kids to attend the program last year than the amount that actually did, resulting in a program that was too expensive for the amount of children attending. The mayor asked that the contract with the YMCA not go into effect until some of the preliminary work like registration was done. The YMCA representatives stated that this would be no problem.
The Board members also voiced their concern about marketing going out too late last year. Taylor and Walker agreed with the Board members that marketing about the program, as well as available scholarships, should be sent out to the schools by early May to make sure parents know about the program.
The Board also requested weekly updates on how the program is doing and how well it’s being attended from the YMCA.
