RETSOF — The Dansville Mustangs defeated the York Golden Knights 40-39 in one of the most bizarre victories in wrestling.
Riley Andrews and Blane Ratchford finished off their opponents, with two consecutive pins, to capture their team 12 points to tie Dansville 39-39. Based on the Section V rule book, both teams were tied up until the 8th criteria, where Dansville was awarded one point based on the victor of the first match.
“We were pretty evenly matched,” said Head Coach Chad Draper. “A little later in the year and I believe it will be a better outcome.”
The Golden Knights had six wrestlers win by way of pin. Senior captain Derek Draper, wrestling at the 138lb weight class, pulled out a pin with 7 seconds remaining in the 3rd period to gain his team a much needed 6 points.
“It felt good to get off to a great start to my senior year,” said Draper. “I’m looking forward to helping the new guys improve throughout the year.”
The Golden Knights (0-1), are looking to bounce back next week where they will take on Pavilion(0-0), Wednesday December 5th at 6pm.
