AVON – A credit card user’s careful checking of her bills paid off when the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Avon residents on felony charges for allegedly stealing her card.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Steven Mellor, 22, and Ellis Alfonso Mercardo, 25, were both arrested for felony Grand Larceny in the Fourth Degree and misdemeanor Identity Theft in the Third Degree.
On Aug. 25, Deputy Timothy Sweeting took a complaint from an Avon resident reporting that her credit card was either lost or stolen. The resident then discovered that her credit was used at a local convenience store.
By Aug. 31, Deputies identified Meller and Mercardo as those who allegedly used the credit card and took both into custody.
Sheriff’s Investigator Dan Rittenhouse assisted with the investigation.
Mellor and Mercardo were turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention.
Geneseo Town Justice Kathleen Houston arraigned both defendants. Houston released Mellor on his own recognizance, with no bail required, and ordered Mercardo held at the Livingston County Jail on $250 cash or $500 bond.
