LEICESTER — A Fillmore woman narrowly escaped serious injury after she was involved in a horrific looking collision when she swerved into a combine she was attempting to pass.

According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Elizabeth Newland, 72, was attempting to pass the combine, which were both headed eastbound on Rte. 39 when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction forced her into the farm machine where then both spun out of control.
Newland was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the combine did not sustain any injuries. The investigation is still on-going and no charges or tickets have been issued at this time.
Investigating members of the Sheriff’s Office included Captain Brian Applin, Captain Norman Zeh, Investigator Bradley Schneider, Sergeant Chad VanAuken, Deputy Bryan Mann, Deputy Stephanie Schroeder and Deputy Ross Gerace.
Fire Departments from Cuylerville, Leicester, Mt Morris, Perry and Perry Center, along with the Livingston County Ambulance and Perry Ambulance as well as Mercy Flight assisted at the scene.
