LIVINGSTON COUNTY — The Livingston County Workforce Development Office is hosting 12 employers and counting at a seasonal job fair to keep the local workforce growing.
The event will run on Thursday October 30 at the Livingston County Government Center, 6 Court Street in Geneseo from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Workforce Development officials said that the point is to bring eager workers in contact with job opportunities that they may not even be aware of.
“Although unemployment numbers are low, there is still a large number of county residents that are out of work, and many have stopped looking,” said Ryan Snyder, Director of the Workforce Development Office. “The purpose of this event is to try and connect job seekers with areas in which employers have open positions.”
A wide variety of employers will be featured at the fair, including Coastal Staffing, TA208 Travel Center, Remedy Staffing, McDonald’s, VNA of WNY, Fidelis Care, Pioneer Credit Recovery, ARC of Livingston Wyoming, Gamestop, Kraft, Genesee Valley Federal Credit Union, and Wendy’s, and more could sign on in the next few days.
Staff at Workforce Development said that the job fair has usually been only an annual event with up to 42 employers, and that employers have approached them about recruiting more local people. They have successfully hosted seasonal fairs like this one and plan to keep with this new trend in the future.
Workforce Development staff also have lots of tips about how to prepare for an interview, ranging from advice on footwear to warnings against mouthwash since it can make your breath smell like alcohol.
“Dress appropriately, don’t bring children, don’t smoke beforehand, take the usual steps to prepare for an interview,” said John Jaeger, Employment Counselor at Workforce Development. “Be sure to bring a Master Application with names and addresses of employers.”
Anyone interested can go to room 205 in the Livingston County Government Center at 11 a.m. on Thursday to participate.
