According to a press release from Linda Vera, Citizen Participation Specialist with the DEC, the tanker rolled over as it turned off of Nunda-Byersville Road onto an access road.
“The majority of the manure was flushed by flowing water,” said Vera in the release. “The spill was contained and remediated.”
The responsible party’s concentrated animal feeding operation (CAFO) consultant evaluated the spill and reported some recoverable manure near the spill site. It was removed with an excavator.
When the tanker was placed in an upright position, it was approximately half full, indicating the manure spill was approximately 4,000 gallons. The consultant agreed to bail water from an area of pooled, manure-impacted water several hundred feet from the spill area.
DEC law enforcement did not issue any citations.
