INTERSTATE 390: Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a West Sparta man following a traffic stop on Interstate 390.
On January 18th, 2019 Deputy Shawn Whitford was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office initiative, Operation Safe Interstate. The Deputy Sheriff did stop a motorist on the interstate for a violation of the New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law.

During the course of interviewing the operator, a passenger in the vehicle, Eric R. VanCuren, age 36 of West Sparta NY, was found to have crack cocaine in his possession. The Deputy Sheriff did take VanCuren into custody and charged him with Criminal Possession of a
Controlled Substance in the 7th Degree. Further investigation on scene did reveal that VanCuren is on active probation in Livingston
County.
VanCuren was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention. VanCuren was later arraigned in the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Groveland Town Justice Jeanean Love. The Judge remanded VanCuren to the custody of the Sheriff on $300 cash bail or $600 bond.
