LIVINGSTON COUNTY — The holiday season is all about giving. What better way to celebrate the season than to donate toys, clothing, household items, or food to those who need it locally. Here are a few examples of places and ways you can give to help others this holiday season.

The Christmas program at Catholic Charities of Livingston County brings great joy to many families and children. In 2011, their Christmas program served 115 families, including 235 children.
Items needed:
• brand new children’s toys and clothing up to age 18 (please do not gift wrap items)
• Christmas food items (cranberry sauce, gravy, potatoes, ham, turkey, etc.)
• gift cards
• personal care items for teenagers (deodorant, body wash, perfume, etc.)
• scotch tape
• wrapping paper

The Arc of Livingston-Wyoming has partnered with Catholic Charities of Livingston County to provide toys and clothing to local children.
Items needed:
New clothes and toys for children from birth through 18 years old
All gifts should be unwrapped.

Focus on the Children is a private children’s charity serving children birth-18 years who reside in Livingston County. Their mission is to provide emergency/crisis assistance for a child’s need that cannot be met by any other agency or program. Their assistance provides goods and/or services to meet those needs which may include: health and safety, medical, dental, educational, social/emotional as well as the basic needs of food, clothing and shelter. Focus on the Children serves approximately 250 individual children at Christmas time.
Items needed:
new, unwrapped toys, games, and activities for children of all ages. New or hand-knitted warm hats, mittens / gloves, and sweaters of all sizes. Also accepting unused wrapping paper, bows, stocking stuffers.

The Salvation Army sponsors the Christmas Cheer Giving Tree, which provides families who are struggling throughout Livingston County during the holiday season with gifts and food.

Board games, books, crafts, Mp3 players, puzzles, pajamas, gift cards, toys for any age

The Community Place of Greater Rochester is sponsoring the Senior Companion Program Holiday Giving program, which provides low income senior citizens with a gift during the Holiday Season.

CURE Childhood Cancer Association services many families from all over the area whose children receive treatment from Strong Hospital for cancer or sickle cell anemia.
Items needed:
Christmas baskets, holiday gifts, toys or other material goods, winter clothing. Other items that are an ongoing need are items such as personal care items, small gifts such as nail polish or manicure kits, Lego kits, snack foods in individual snack sizes, hot cocoa & tea, 2013 calendars/appointment books, gift cards for gas, Wegmans or Tops.

December 14, 2012. On-going donation items can be dropped off any time to the CURE offices. Drop off at CURE, 200 Westfall Rd, Rochester.

The Christmas Sharing Program provides new clothing and toys to families in York Central School district. Contact Fran Frood, who will provide you information about specific sizes and toys needed.

Many local churches have Holiday Giving Trees. You select an “ornament” from the tree and then purchase a gift for the individual or families noted on the ornament.
The Nunda Rotary Club and Nunda Kiwanis Club jointly sponsor the Nunda Community Christmas Program. The program serves the Keshequa Central School District which encompasses Nunda, Dalton, Hunt, Portage, parts of Mt. Morris and West Sparta. The program also serves students in Allegany County with Grange, Grove, and Swain.
Items needed:
Twin sheets, comforters, new coats, and monetary donations for food purchases.
Also, material donations such as new toys, books, gift certificates, and outdoor wear are welcomed.
