SPARTA – A Wayland man was arrested early Wednesday evening after he was found sitting behind the wheel on the shoulder of State Highway 256 in Sparta with his flashers on, allegedly intoxicated.
According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Eric Schoenfeld, 32, was charged with Felony Driving While Intoxicated due to prior conviction within the past ten years, Driving While Intoxicated per se with a Blood Alcohol Content of .08% or greater, and Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.
At 5:06 p.m. on Wednesday, the Livingston County Emergency Communications Center received a complaint regarding a vehicle that was seen on the side of the roadway on State Highway 256 in the Town of Sparta, with its flashers on, with a male occupant behind the driver’s seat.
Sheriff’s Deputy Scott Patterson was dispatched to check the area and found the vehicle and operator, Schoenfeld. A series of field sobriety tests were given to Schoenfeld by Deputy Connor Sanford of the Sheriff’s Office STOP DWI Unit. Schoenfeld was then placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.
Schoenfeld was arraigned in Sparta Town Court before Judge Scollon who remanded him to the Livingston County Jail in lieu of $2,000 cash bail or $3,000 bond. Schoenfeld will appear back in court at a later date.
