Millard F. Walker, Jr., 57, entered a plea of guilty to the charge of Petit Larceny in exchange for the one-year sentence. At the time of his arrest Mr. Walker had received $3,000 in partial payment for trees, he did not own, that he had sold to a local logging company.
Walker appeared before Judge Dennis S. Cohen with his attorney Christian Kennedy. ADA Justin Hill represented the County.
“I am deeply apologetic for my actions,” said Walker, who apologized both to the court and his victims, and expressed his commitment to turn his life around. “It’s in God’s hands now.”
In an effort to further illustrate his newfound direction, the defendant submitted pre-sentencing statements from family members, as well as his pastor. In addition, his attorney pointed out that his client is currently receiving treatment for mental health issues.
Judge Cohen wan’t buying Walker’s newfound faith and pointed out his lengthy criminal record, including years of fraudulent activity.
“There is nothing in your record to indicate that you will refrain from criminal activity once you are released,” said Cohen. “You are a career criminal.”
Walker’s current sentence is continent upon the payment of restitution to his victims.
