According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, inmate Andrew R. Sobilo, 28, of Dunkirk, NY, was arrested from jail when Deputies smelled marijuana smoke coming from the northwest corner of the upper section of “B Pod” in the jail. Apparently Sobilo, who was originally arrested for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th Degree in October, had someone sneak the grass into the jail for him.
“As you see from the staff that investigated this incident, we do not and will not tolerate any type of contraband in our facility,” said Jail Chief Deputy Jason Yasso.
The Sheriff added that another joint was found in a book in the jail’s multipurpose room. K9 officers and their handlers were brought in to search the jail.
Sobilo was charged with one count of Promoting Prison Contraband in the First Degree, a class D Felony. Sobilo was also charged with one count of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana, a violation.
Sobilo was processed and arraigned before Judge Thomas Bushnell in Geneseo Village Court and remanded back to the custody of the Sheriff.
Assisting from the Sheriff’s Road Patrol Division for a K9 search of the facility was Deputy Shawn Whitford with Sheriff’s K9 officer Utah, and Deputy Ryan Swanson with Sheriff’s K9 officer Gibbs.
