According to news partner 13WHAM, restaurant servers, hotel housekeepers, and other tipped workers in New York are currently making $5 per hour. That wage would increase in 2016 to $7.50 per hour before tips.
Governor Cuomo’s administration announced the change Tuesday. However, businesses may pay less as long as gratuities make up the difference so that the employee is not making less than $8.75 per hour minimum wage rate.
