LIVINGSTON COUNTY — Virginia Amico is retiring as the Livingston County Clerk of the Board of Supervisors.
Amico was recognized for all of her hard work at the Board of Supervisors meeting on Wednesday as she said her farewell to the position she held for 23 years.
“I thank the board for the honor and the privilege to serve as their clerk for 23 years,” said Amico.
The meeting room fell to a hush as nearly every Town Supervisor personally thanked Amico for all that she has done for Livingston County.
“Virginia, thank you so much for all that you have done over the years,” said David LeFeber, Avon Town Supervisor.
A reception was held in honor of Amico’s retirement immediately following the Board of Supervisors meeting.
“We tried to get Bruce Springsteen to come, but he was unavailable,” said Ian Coyle, Livingston County Administrator jokingly.
Amico’s eyes filled with tears as she reminisced over 23 years of memories.
“To look back at the changes, it is amazing how much this county has grown,” said Amico.
Amico has been out of work due to a heart condition since June 3 and plans to attempt to maintain her health during retirement.
Amico’s retirement will be in effect as of August 31, 2013, she will be retiring under Livingston County’s Early Retirement Incentive.
Michelle Rees will be taking over as the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors.
“Michelle and I have worked together for 18 years and we have become quite close,” said Amico. “She does have some things to learn, but I am so glad to see her succeeding.”
Rees was one of the many people that spoke in honor of Amico’s retirement.
“I have you on speed dial,” said Rees to Amico. “I thank you so much for helping me along the way.”
“I will always be indebted to the board for all that they have done,” said Amico.
