CASTILE – A violent fire destroyed a detached garage and multiple vehicles at the corner of Washington and Jefferson Roads during Sunday night’s blizzard conditions.
Witnesses said that they heard loud explosions while the fire was burning.
“I watched the entire fire from the upstairs of my house. It was a very intense fire with flames shooting above their home,” said Ken Wallace, who lives directly across the street on Jefferson Road. “There were a few vehicles destroyed and explosions were heard during this fire. One was quite loud.”
Fortunately, no one was injured in the fire, and the residents are still able to stay at home. Wallace said that it was due to firefighters’ precautions that the house itself did not suffer any damage.
“I personally believe that Perry’s aerial ladder truck saved the day here as they were able to get above this fire, soak down the house, and battle the flames,” said Wallace. “This truck was parked 15 feet outside my bedroom window and as I watched I was amazed at how professional they, along with the rest of the firefighters, were. Our volunteers are heroes in my eyes for their dedication to saving lives and property.”
Wallace said that in the end he is glad no one was hurt and his neighbors are still staying at home.
“I’m so glad, even though loss of property is a sad event, that no one was injured or lost in this fire,” said Wallace. “I love my neighbors and feel blessed to have them.”
