A wayward goat, named Milly, entertained the village of Honeoye Sunday night and Monday, before being recaptured.
The new goat, owned by Mary Sikes, escaped from an enclosure Sunday, hours after being brought home and put it in a new run. Facebook lit up with sightings.
The SIkes and others tried to recapture the goat Sunday night until about 2 a.m., but it was dark and rainy, and they lost sight of her. The rescue crew, hoping she was tired and bedded down, went home. At 6 a.m., the goat-tracking group started again.
Milly was sighted by various neighbors who reported her whereabouts through Facebook.
First she was reported being seen at Cornerstone Market and Scotty G’s Pizza shop at about 10 p.m., headed east on Sunday night. Then someone posted she was seen at Honeoye Valley Practice for a 6:30 a.m. appointment Monday, She was also sighted at West’s Shurfine, and on North Shore Drive by 7 a.m.
Monday still another neighbor posted on Facebook’s “Honeoye Happenings”: “I know it’s 7 a.m. on a Monday morning, but I just saw a brown mule/donkey at East Lake and North Shore Drive. Was I imagining this, or is this breaking news in Honeoye?” Another North Shore resident, Jack Fagan, reported the goat was on his deck, like she wanted to come in.
Finally, at about noon on Monday, a post came that said, “The errant goat just went West on Mountain View Drive – unless it swims, it will be stuck this side of the outlet.”
Milly was captured shortly after, and it was posted on Facebook by Sikes that the goat had been captured and taken home. Mary and Teresa Sikes both posted their gratitude to all who were involved in the sightings and attempted captures.
“Thank you everyone. What a great way to meet our community. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Thank you to all who came out to assist…THANK YOU!” posted Mary Sikes on Facebook.
Some of the residents suggested Millie could be the town mascot since everyone now knows her.Top of Form
