GENESEO — The Village of Geneseo accepted a New York State Water Infrastructure Improvement grant for up to $448,675 that will go towards the disinfection project at the waste water treatment plant.
The Village is still applying for another grant from the DEC that will be interest free and cover 85 percent of construction costs.
“We are waiting to hear from the DEC.” said Mayor Richard Hatheway. “They need to tell us what to do to move further in the application process.”
In recent years, the DEC has been requiring local municipal wastewater treatment facilities to be able to disinfect their wastewater.
The Village’s wastewater treatment plant sends clean drinking water to Geneseo and York.
The board hopes to hear more about the DEC grant in the upcoming months.
