AVON – Gracious community members threw a surprise reception for retiring Village Clerk Patricia Baker on Monday, thanking her for more than 30 years of service and dedication to the village.
Baker came to the Village of Avon as a part-time clerk in 1982 and transitioned to full-time clerk in 1987. She says that the Board has always worked well together and done good work for their community.
“The Board gets along well, and the Village and Town get along well,” said Baker. “That makes it hard to leave.”
John Barrett, Superintendent of Public Works, came on board shortly after Patty.
“I’m just thinking that I’ve been working for the Village for 20-plus years, and Patty was always there,” said Barrett. “Anything you needed, Patty had the answer.”
The Village and Town held a joint meeting after the reception, which Baker officially opened and led the Pledge of Allegiance as her last action on the record as Avon Village Clerk.
