AVON – Avon residents will see a big new workhorse on Village streets this year.
The Village purchased the 2008 International Work Star 6-wheel dump truck from the Town of Pittsford for $55,000 to do municipal work, annual brush and leaf pickups, and plow snow in the winter.
“A new truck, bare bones, would have cost in excess of $100,000,” said Freeman. “We’re very happy to have it. We wouldn’t have bought a new truck with all of these bells and whistles.”
The spry vehicle has just 27,000 miles on it and came equipped with a front snow plow and wing. It will replace the Village’s tired old 1986 truck.
“We have excellent mechanics at our [Department of Public Works] and get a pretty good bang out of our equipment,” said Freeman. “The plan is to get a solid 30 years out of this purchase.”
The truck will do heavy-duty municipal jobs in the summer and plow roads in the winter. It will not be equipped to salt roads like true snowplows do.
