GENESEO – The Livingston Country Club erupted into singing “Happy Birthday” as Matt and Joe Griffo rolled over the ridge of the ninth hole on July 4, and Joe was surprised with an honorary plaque to the cheers of his family and friends.
Much of the Griffo family made a toast to Joe this morning, as it was his 89th birthday and a fitting time to celebrate his lifelong dedication to his family, the country club, and the community.
“Dad is the only member of the Livingston Country Club, to achieve all 4 aces,” said Matt Griffo, Joe’s son. “The par 3s are not easy here at The Nines either. He’s one of the pillars of the community. Golf came second to his family and work. He turned 89 today so it seemed fitting to award this plaque to him today.”
Joe and family were all smiles and laughter as the plaque was unveiled. It says, “Joe ‘Smokey’ Griffo, only golfer to ace all of the LCC. Par 3 holes, #2, 9, 11, & 13. Dedicated July 4, 2015.”
Matt Griffo thanked Moore Farms, specifically Pat, Denny and Gary, as well as Sam Chanler, Dan “Doc” Chiara, and Tom Burke of the Livingston Country Club.
