According to Leicester mayor Barry Briffa, Van Allen’s formal letter of resignation was submitted in the beginning of February, but the process of passing the torch will take some time still. For example, the board has yet to formally accept Van Allen’s resignation due to hearings and meetings that must first take place.
“I have Mr. Van Allen’s resignation letter in front of me right now,” said Mayor Briffa. “Mr. Van Allen has done an excellent job. He is a fine attorney and there is no bad feeling between us.”
Van Allen has been the Village Attorney since 2013, and will continue in that capacity until about the first of May.
“It was a true privilege and honor working for the residents of the village,” said Van Allen. “I can say for certain that the leadership team in the village is strong and will continue to serve its residents well. I will remain on board to ensure a smooth transition to whomever the village hires as their new counsel.”
