UNEMPLOYMENT DECLINES NATIONALLY TO BELOW 700,000

 

The U.S. Department of Labor is reporting that the number of people seeking unemployment benefits declined last week to 684,000 last week.  This is the lowest number since the pandemic began last March.

Although this is the first time that weekly applications for jobless aid have fallen below 700,000 a total number of 18.9 million people are continuing to collect jobless benefits.  Of these about one-third have been unemployed for at least six months.
