Two trucks crashed into the Warsaw Elementary School Library at about 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 2, sending two men by Mercy flight, one to ECMC and the other to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, both with life-threatening injuries. Both were listed in stable condition on Saturday.
According to Warsaw Police Chief Pete Hoffmeister, the accident occurred when the accelerator on one of the trucks got stuck, causing that truck to broadside another pick up truck at an estimated 80 mph, pushing both into the elementary school library wall, smashing windows, cinder blocks, and putting a significant hole in the library wall. About 20 students were in the library at the time, but no one in the building was hurt.
Students were evacuated to the Warsaw High School, where they were reunited with parents, and sent home. School will continue as usual on Monday, although the elementary library will be closed until repairs can be made.
