AVON – Two men were arrested on felony drug possession charges after a routine traffic stop on Rte. 15 in the Town of Avon.

According to a press release from Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty, Deputy Sheriff Shawn Whitford initiated a traffic stop for a Vehicle and Traffic Law violation, but his subsequent investigation revealed that the driver, Cain Cox age 25, of Dalton, had a suspended driver’s license and was in possession of Vicadin without a prescription, as well as one bag of which is believed to be heroin.
However, Cox’s passenger, Anthony Velazquez, 26, of Mount Morris, was found to be in possession of 40 bags of what was also believed to be heroin, which he tried to toss into a ditch. Velazquez was charged with Felony Tampering with Evidence, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.
Cox was charged with two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree, as well as Vehicle and Traffic charges that included Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the Third Degree.
Assisting Deputy Whitford with the incident were Deputy Connor Sanford and Deputy Caleb Cutting.
