The New York Museum of Transportation, in Rush, will once again operate its popular electric trolley rides through the scenic Genesee Valley countryside. The 2-mile round trips depart the museum at 11:30, 12:30, 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30, and no reservations are required.
Trolley cars operated by the museum hark back to the “interurban era” of a hundred years ago when large, fast electric trolley cars offered service between Rochester and Buffalo, Syracuse and Geneva. A clean, comfortable alternative to steam trains, interurban trolleys around the country were a favorite means of travel from 1900 to the start of the Great Depression.
The museum’s historic trolley ride is included with admission of $10 adults, $9 seniors (65+) and $6 youths (age 3 – 12). Featured exhibits enjoyed by all ages include a steam locomotive, a giant model railroad, and the Midtown Plaza Monorail. Museum hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and visitors are urged to arrive by 3:00 for time to see everything.
The museum is located just 20 minutes south of Rochester at 6393 East River Road in Rush, one mile north of Rt. 251 (I-390 exit 11). www.nymtmuseum.org info@nymtmuseum.org (585) 533-1113
