Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of Rochester NY resident on felony weapons charges after a traffic stop.
On February 23, 2020 at approximately 10:45 pm, Deputy Jerry Pilkenton was assigned to the Sheriff’s Office Operation Safe Interstate initiative when he stopped a vehicle on East Avon – Lima Road for a violation of the NYS Vehicle and Traffic Law.
During the course of the traffic stop, a passenger in the vehicle was found to be in possession of a switchblade knife. The passenger was identified as 29 year old Arices J. Giles of Rochester.
Giles was arrested and charged with felony Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree. The charge was a felony as Giles had previous convictions of crimes.
The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charge. It was advised that Giles should be held without the chance of bail due to him having multiple prior felony level convictions.
Giles was later arraigned on the charge in the Town of Avon Court before Judge Jeannie Michalski. The Judge did remand Giles to the custody of the Sheriff without the chance of bail.
