YORK – A tractor trailer and silver SUV collided at the intersection of Rte. 63 (Genesee Street) and Retsof Road at about 6:40 p.m. Tuesday evening, the second of two separate and severe car accident scenes that occurred at the same time and within half a mile from one other Tuesday evening.
According to first responders on scene, the driver of the SUV was apparently attempting to turn left onto Retsof Road while Eastbound on Genesee Street when he was struck from behind by the tractor trailer, which apparently then drifted from its course and ran off the road on the right side of Genesee Street.
There were three passengers in the SUV, including the driver and a golden retriever, all of whom were unhurt.
Multiple airbags were deployed in the SUV, and several of its windows were shattered in the crash.
The tractor trailer fared worse for debilitating damage, however, as running off the road destroyed the front left wheel of the truck and rendered it completely immobile while the SUV was able to pull into a nearby parking lot for safety.
Firefighters with the York Fire Department responded to both this scene and another severe accident further north on Retsof Road, where an apparently glancing head-on collision resulted in one passenger being cut from their vehicle. Firefighters were assisted on both scenes by Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputies and ambulance crews.
