The Friends of the Livonia Public Library are adding new toys to the Toy Library Collection that it created in 2020. The only Toy Library in Livingston County, the collection is a community resource that allows families, caregivers, grandparents, etc. to borrow toys at no cost.
The collection is made up of toys geared towards children ages infant through 9 years old, but all ages are welcome to borrow them. Toys are selected for quality and safety, and are sanitized after they are returned. The current toy library includes seven toys and with the new additions, will have 10 toys.
“Our goal is to enhance early educational skills,” says Friends President Mae Sharman, “and families and friends get to spend quality time together, learning while they play.”
The recent purchases include magnetic tile building blocks and a Hide-N-Go Moo Farm. Friends, library staff, Trustees, and community members suggested the toys and included these comments:
“These are such a favorite for my kiddos and to be honest my husband as well.”
“This is great for when the grandkids come to visit. They love it!”
The toy collection can be viewed online on the library’s website, livonialibrary.org/. Choose the catalog tab and search “Livonia Public Library” and “equipment, games and toys”, or stop in at the library. The toys are available to OWWL library cardholders only and must be checked out from and returned to the Livonia Public Library.
The Livonia Public Library is a member of the Pioneer Library System (OWWL) a cooperative public library system serving and supporting the 42 public and association libraries serving Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston Counties, NY.
