CALEDONIA – The Town of Caledonia is weighing a business owner’s proposal to build an auto salvage yard on River Road.
According to a notice posted to the Town of Caledonia’s website, Joseph A. Dendis, also known as HLD Properties LLC, has applied to the Town Board for approval of a Pick n Pull Automobile Salvage Facility to be located at 115 River Road. A public hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2016 7:30 p.m. at the Caledonia Town Hall for the Town Board to accept public comment.
“The business owner proposed the project at the last board meeting, June 9,” said Caledonia Town Supervisor Daniel Pangrazio. “He would have about 2,000 cars. If you need a tail light, you drive up to the gates and say ‘I have a Ford that needs a left tail light’ and he’ll tell you ‘aisle 5.’ You bring a screwdriver, remove the part yourself, and pay for it on the way out.”
Pangrazio said that no specifics have been discussed as far as financial benefits to the Town. The facility would be subject to sales tax.
“As far as specific numbers for sales tax benefits, I haven’t heard anything to that effect yet,” said Pangrazio. “The owner said that he expects to have 15 to 20 customers to come in per day.”
Written comments on the project can be submitted the Caledonia Town Board, 3109 Main Street, Caledonia, prior to the hearing.
