AKRON — Last week Kiplingat Tisia shattered the Rochester Marathon course record with a time of 2:19:59, six day’s later the Kenyan has turned out a mind-numbing 2:21:52 at the Akron Marathon.
Last week’s Rochester Marathon was impressive for his first race at that distance, but with today’s achievement he clearly establishes himself as a contender in the elite stage.
“I’m happy with my time,” said Tisia. “I had some cramping issues but I came back strong.”
Tisia, who is originally from Bomet, Koibey, in the rift valley of Kenya is trying to earn enough money for a plane ticket for a visit back home. He is living in Rochester with friends and cousins.
