LIMA- Three men believed to be connected with a shooting late Monday night in Bath, Steuben County, are now in custody at the New York State Police barracks in Mt. Morris.
The three arrests followed a seven-hour manhunt by State Police, SWAT teams and K9 units after the suspects’ vehicle allegedly crashed into a fire hydrant and road sign around 12:30am Tuesday morning in Lima, and the occupants fled on foot.
New York State police did not return requests for comment. Continue to follow the Sun as more details come in.
According to WHEC Rochester, one suspect was arrested and questioned around 5am Tuesday, when Livingston County Sheriff Thomas Dougherty and State Police captain Rick Allen spotted him riding a bicycle and waving at passersby, trying to blend into the community.
At about 7am Tuesday, following a police alert that a manhunt was underway, a Mendon resident reported two men walking in an open cornfield on Rush Lima Road (Rte. 15A) near Honeoye Falls. The men were arrested at about 7:30am.
Police said that the victim in the shooting was shot twice, once in the head and once in the chest, and remains in critical condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
A section of Rochester Road (Rte. 15 A South of Honeoye Falls) was closed as State Police searched for a firearm that may have been thrown from the suspects’ vehicle near an overpass and has since been reopened. Allegedly, troopers were led to that overpass by suspect Stephen Alexander (24) after questioning.
Only Alexander has been charged thus far, with assault. More charges may be added.
