GENESEO – University Police (UPD) at SUNY Geneseo now have a new Chief, according to a Thursday press release from the College.
Just over one year since he began serving as interim Chief in January of 2014, Thomas Kilcullen is officially taking the reins as Chief of the SUNY Geneseo UPD.
Kilcullen came to Geneseo as interim police chief in January 2014 after serving in the University at Albany Police Department, where he rose to the position of Deputy Chief of Police and Chief Investigator.
“We are very fortunate to have a person with Tom’s experience and skills join our college community on a permanent basis,” said Robert A. Bonfiglio, vice president for student and campus life. “He has shown strong leadership as the interim chief and is committed to maintaining the strong relationship that has been built over the years with the community. We look forward to the continuing contributions he will make in maintaining a safe campus for our students, staff, faculty and visitors.”
Kilcullen is a graduate of Southern Vermont College and Hudson Valley Community College, as well as a graduate of the FBI National Academy Police Executive Training Program in Quantico, Va. During his tenure at the University at Albany, he was recognized as an exceptional member of the university police force and was honored with several awards including the university’s President’s Award for Excellence in Professional Service; the Division of Student Affairs Award for Professional Service; the SUNY Chiefs of Police Association Award for Professionalism in Campus Law Enforcement; and the University at Albany President’s Award for Excellence in Support Services.
At the University at Albany, Kilcullen instituted a cost-saving model for his department, including a mountain bike patrol that were recognized as innovative practices in university policing.
Kilcullen is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the New York State Chiefs of Police Association.
