MOUNT MORRIS — Last Tuesday night, Theatre 101 hosted a Rally for Red Hook benefit concert and silent auction to help raise money for Red Hook, Brooklyn, which was ravaged by Hurricane Sandy.
Cathie and Rick Barry, who run Theatre 101, sent off $5089 in donations raised at the event to the Red Hook Initiative this week. They anticipate sending another round of money as mailed-in donations are received.
The Barrys decided to help out Red Hook because of its connection to developer Greg O’Connell who helped revitalize Mount Morris. O’Connell began buying dilapidated buildings in Red Hook, which was known for its drug addicts and prostitutes, in 1982, the year after he retired from the N.Y.P.D. He renovated one building at a time and is now Red Hook’s biggest landowner. In 2007, he began to do the same thing in Mount Morris.
Those interested in donating may send a check made out to Red Hook Initiative to Theatre 101, 101 Main Street Mt. Morris, NY 14510 or visit www.rhicenter.org.
