GENESEO – The Statesmen says that it will no longer be serving alcohol, but it plans to open as an alcohol-free night club for the fall semester.
Owner Rocco Dragani said that there are no official opening dates, but the plan is to open as a dry dance venue sometime during the coming semester.
“There will be a $5 cover,” said Dragani. “We still want to be the place where all college students can come dance. I spent a lot of time in bands so I made sure to invest in a good sound system. Students should look for our announcement on an opening date and come dance.”
The Statesmen made a statement on social media in April that they would not be renewing their liquor license.
“We do not wish to pay, what we consider to be, the extortionate amount of money, under unacceptable terms, to the SLA,” said part of the statement.
The closure of venues that serve alcohol continues to be a concern in the community. The community was concerned for student safety when the famous Inn Between bar and dance club closed for good in 2014 and a fire closed the now rebuilt and reopened Kelly’s Saloon.
