LIVINGSTON COUNTY – A former Avon resident pled guilty to a felony Tuesday morning for selling cocaine to undercover members of the Livingston County Drug Task Force.
Matthew House, 39, pled guilty to felony Attempted Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree and agreed to serve 3 years in state prison followed by 3 years on parole as a second felony offender, having been convicted of Assault in the Second Degree in 2003.
“Though my client has made come poor decisions, he has spent the 12 years since his last conviction as a law-abiding citizen,” said House’s attorney, Raymond Scarrino. “He has my every hope and confidence in his ability to do so in the future.”
House was arrested in June 2015 after an investigation by the Livingston County Drug Task Force. The drug sale took place on or about Nov. 7, 2014 in Avon.
Since he pled guilty to an ‘attempt’ of the B felony originally charged in the indictment, he was convicted of a less severe C felony.
Judge Robert Wiggins told House that he hopes the long period he spent out of trouble with the law reflects his true self.
“The court does note the significant period of time since your last conviction,” said Judge Wiggins. “I hope that is indicative of the real ‘you’ rather than the ‘you’ who committed these fairly egregious acts.”
The Livingston County Drug Task Force is comprised of members of the following agencies: the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Avon Police Department, Caledonia Police Department, Drug Enforcement Administration, Geneseo Police Department, Mount Morris Police Department, NYS Park Police, Nunda Police Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Livingston County District Attorney’s Office.
