GENESEO – A Perry man is facing criminal charges for allegedly stealing a diamond bracelet and pendant necklace from Walmart and resisting arrest, which led to his being tased by police.
According to a press release from Geneseo Police Chief Eric Osganian, Kenneth Shearing, 35, was charged with two counts of Petit Larceny and one count of Resisting Arrest, both of which are misdemeanors.
On Sept. 1, officers were called to Wal-Mart for an individual who may be stealing jewelry and may still be in the store. Officers allege that Shearing stole a diamond bracelet valued at $98 and a pendant necklace valued at $48. He allegedly tried to run and struggled with police when confronted.
Officers wrestled with Shearing in the parking lot and used a taser to apprehend him.
Osganian said that further theft-related charges are pending. Walmart reports to police that they are missing two more items of jewelry that were not recovered as part of this incident.
Shearing is on probation with the Wyoming County Probation Department for a criminal conviction related to tampering with evidence.
Geneseo Village Justice Thomas Bushnell arraigned Shearing and ordered him held at the Livingston County Jail on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond.
