DEC states no environmental concerns for Oatka Creek
WHEATLAND — Ongoing cleanup continues for the train derailment site in Wheatland, and officials have stated there are no significant environmental concerns. Oatka Creek resides at least 300 yards away from the train derailment site and all precautions are being taken by the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) to ensure the creeks safety. Questions arise from local fisherman after train derailment
MONROE COUNTY — A train derailment in Wheatland that spilled rock salt is raising environmental concerns. The crash site is approximately 150 yards from Oatka Creek, a 1.7 mile stream that runs through Oatka Creek County Park in Wheatland. Oatka Creek is prized for its wild brown trout.
