Syracuse University men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim formally admitted to testing positive for the COVID-19 virus yesterday. The 75 year old coach is now among the school’s 232 faculty and 651 students who are currently in quarantine.
According to the well-known coach who is now in his 45th season, he is isolating himself within his home.
“I am not experiencing any symptoms at this time and will continue to monitor my health closely as advised by the medical staff.” Boeheim said thanking everyone for the well wishes.
John Wildhack, the SU’S athletic director, also tested positive for the virus which has caused the university to pause all basketball-related activities.
“We are following all (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) guidelines and (Atlantic Coast Conference) protocols, and working closely with the Onondaga County Department of Health, to mitigate further transmission of the virus,” Wildhack said. “All members of the basketball program will be tested again, multiple times, over the next week.”
