GENESEO — The Geneseo men’s soccer team fell 4-1 to SUNY the Oneonta Red Dragons on Saturday afternoon.
This game was a disappointing end to an otherwise successful week in which they earned two 2-0 wins.

The Knights scored first early in the game, earning a free kick in under a minute just outside the penalty area on the left side. Senior captain Alex Stephan drove the kick low in front of the net where one of his numerous teammates in the area was able to convert.
“It was the perfect start for a game, but it was very disappointing to get out-competed the rest of the way,” said coach Oliveri after the game.
Seven minutes later, Oneonta drew level again with a long shot that beat the goalie low. Then with 20 minutes left in the half they struck again, quieting the home crowd. The Red Dragons kept the pressure up and dominated most of the possession, tallying one more goal to take a 3-1 lead into halftime.
The second half didn’t change much, as Oneonta controlled the game, giving up few if any quality scoring chances to the Knights. The dagger came with 11 minutes left on the clock, as an Oneonta forward dribbled around in the penalty area around tired defenders before netting the last goal of the match.
SUNY Geneseo now holds a (3-5-2) record, and is (1-2-1) in conference play. The Knights look to improve on that next week as they travel to both Nazareth and Brockport.
