GENESEO — The Geneseo Knights men’s soccer team earned their first victory at home on Friday, beating Clarkson with a 2-0.
The game began with both teams playing evenly until the 12th minute when senior captain, Alex Stephan, was able to collect a corner kick on the top of the box and ripped a shot right over the keepers extended arm. One minute later Stephan followed up with a free kick from 30 yards out and crushed it off the crossbar and in to the goal to create a 2-0 gap.
“It feels great,” said Stephan after the game. “We had a great crowd that propelled us to a great 2-0 victory at home.”
The Knights had good spacing and passing, which led to a solid amount of possession and strong ball control the entire game.
Coach Oliveri looks to extend this trend of holding on to the ball and capitalizing on opportunities in tomorrow’s home game against St. Lawrence.
“It always feels great to win your first home game,” said Oliveri. “We played a lot of guys tonight and we are looking good going into a big game tomorrow.”
The Knights now look to bolster their confidence as league play draws near. They bring a (1-2) record into Saturday’s 3:00 home match against an undefeated team from St. Lawrence.
