GENESEO – SUNY Geneseo officials released a statement at about 4:30pm on Monday, regarding the alleged attack on a transgendered student on Court Street Friday evening.
Dr. Leonard Sancilio, Dean of Students at SUNY Geneseo, said that the College has reached out to Rory Brown, the alleged attacker, and the unidentified alleged victim, and that since the victim identifies as transgender the incident could be considered a hate crime.
“Because our student who was assaulted identifies as transgender, it is also possible that this incident will be considered a hate crime,” said Sancilio. “This type of behavior is not acceptable, is not condoned, and has no place at Geneseo. Persons engaging in this type of behavior will be subject to prosecution to the fullest extent of College policy, if applicable, and the law.”
Sancilio added that Brown is no longer a Geneseo student, and reached out to the college community to discuss “bias-related issues.”
