GENESEO – The SUNY Geneseo Ice Knights shut out the Brockport Eagles 3-0 on Friday in their home victory to secure third place in the SUNYAC Standings.
The game started with the Ice Knights offense wreaking havoc on the Eagles’ defense, shooting 18 shots on goal. Forward AJ Sgaraglio scored the first goal of the game on the Eagles goalie with two minutes left in the period immediately after Ice Knight teammate David Ripple went down with a leg injury. It is unclear how severe the injury was, but it was noticeable that Ripple was unable to put any weight on his left leg as he was escorted off the ice by his teammates.

The Ice Knights continued their great play into the second and third period with goals scored by Forward Ryan Donnelly in the second and Forward Derek Stahl in the third. Their defense was excellent all around clearing the puck out of their zone while continuing to put pressure on the Eagles defense throughout the whole game. Once Geneseo was up 3-0 in third period tensions between both division rivals started to grow when players began badmouthing and shoving on numerous occasions on the ice due to built up frustrations.
Along with the overall great performance from the Ice Knights on both defense and offense, Goalie Nick Horrigan set a school milestone, becoming the Ice Knights’ career leader in shutouts. The Ice Knights are looking to continue their success in their next home game on Friday, Feb. 13 against the Cortland Red Dragons.
