BROCKPORT — The SUNY Geneseo Indoor Track and Field team competed at SUNY Brockport this past weekend for the SUNYAC Championships. The teams, for the first time since 2006, swept the SUNYAC Championships.
“Those who competed, and those who did not all had a part,” said Assistant Coach Dan Moore. “The cheering squad provided much hype and motivation. Each event built on the next. They rode the momentum all the way to the end.”
Friday night got the ball rolling, with many athletes qualifying for final heats in their events. Some of the bigger news took place in the distance events. The Knights took the top 5 spots in the Men’s 5000m run, while the Women claimed spots 1,2, and 4. The Women also claimed the win in the Distance Medley Relay.
The action continued into Saturday, as Camille Wutz and Alexa Wandy took 1-2 in the Women’s Long Jump. Marissa Cossaro also led the Lady Knights to a 1,2,4 finish in the Women’s Mile.
Issac Garcia-Cassani also led the Knights to a 1,2,3,5 finish in the Men’s Mile. The 3000m run on both the Men’s and Women’s sides helped greatly. The Men took places 1-5, dominating the event, while the Women secured places 1,2,4, and 6.
